CURB Water Temperature Study
Creating Urban Riparian Buffers (CURB) is a program designed to protect and improve water quality in the streams flowing through Walla Walla and College Place. Local collaborators work with willing landowners to install native plant buffers along streams with the goal of creating shade to reduce water temperatures, stabilizing eroding streambanks, and filtering polluted runoff from adjacent land. Monitoring water temperature in these creeks allows project managers to establish a baseline dataset and to evaluate the effectiveness of the urban buffers.
Funding: WA Department of Ecology
Local Collaborators: Tri-State Steelheaders, Kooskooskie Commons, Walla Walla County Conservation District, Walla Walla Basin Watershed Council, participating landowners, and hundreds of volunteers.
